No. The PC allows you to flexibly release SP-only games at competitive price points, and without the glutted budgets/marketing campaigns that practically force useless MP into traditional console games.
I'm not going to quite a list of examples, but seriously, the sheer variety and numbers of boutique, niche and indie SP games on PC vs console marketplaces is pretty clear to see.
@FuzzyPixels: yep, not to mention spectrum crunch for the tablets/mobile devices. :( However, hopefully Sony and MS are going to lobby like crazy for our providers to get their act together!
I can see where you're coming from, and you're not alone! Down the line, we could well start thinking in terms of screens and services rather than consoles - i.e. we'll choose whether to stream our games directly to a smart TV on the wall, a tablet on the table or two our mobile phone.
With our crappy European ISPs, though, we'll be holding this back for a while...
It would be theoretically possible AFAIK, but would be a terrible business decision for Sony at this stage. If consoles do end up dying out, though, they could end up letting us play all manner of games on other platforms - mobile, tablet, PC, legacy, you name it
EDIT: There's a difference between possible and ideal, though - resolution and quality would likely take a significant hit.
I must admit that I was disappointed at first - but since there'll be AI troopers in some missions and matches are actually story-based, I'm definitely willing to give Titanfall the benefit of the doubt. This has been in development for years, so there'll be a good gameplay reason for the limit.
PC mod support can't come soon enough. Go on, EA, do it.
Could be Aliens: Isolation?
Great shout for Fire Emblem Awakening. Game deserves to make more GOTY lists (in my opinion anyway).
Agreed. Though I've been enraged by Nintendo's poor communication over 2013 (in terms of the Wii U, the 3DS is doing fine!), this is a great move.
They let customers try out SM3DW, the biggest Christmas exclusive, and the game that'll sell most systems. In a public environment, Just Dance 2014 and Party will also be embarrassing fun, exactly the sort of thing people want to play at Christmas.
And the sort of good honest wholesome fun that simply c...
Agreed - and EA will take note of a class action lawsuit from disgruntled *shareholders*, not gamers. We get ignored all the time, but when it hits their bottom line, hopefully things will start to change.
Oh man, that's the most naive thing I've ever written.
Much prefer Fire Emblem Awakening myself, but kudos Gamespot, the 3DS has had a great year and deserves to be recognised.
Whoo! Comparing one of the best-looking games of last-gen with one of the first games of the current-gen sure is fun, ain't it?
Mind you, it does hammer home the fact that the graphical jump is so much smaller than previous gens. Rather than being blown away, I kinda take games like KZ and Forza for granted after an hour or so.
Ooh! Knew it. There had to be some kind of connection here - even if it's just an easter egg rather than a full blown canonical crossover.
Now get Rainbow Six and Rayman in there.
It's in the post and on major nelson - just some basic bug fixes, improved wireless drivers, improved UI performance and more than likely making that dev kit mode harder to access.
Stuff we need, like the controller battery icon, still haven't arrived AFAIK.
EDIT: you beat me to it, sorry!
Yeah, this seems pretty basic. More to the point, I'd also like to see title updates automatically installed for all games you own, in the background, while you're at work or out.
@thrust: interesting, I've still had to download certain title updates the old-fashioned way - but that's great news then! :D Perhaps my internet is just hopeless.
Spot on. I love the Nintendo Directs, but only people who closely follow gaming news and/or Nintendo themselves actually know about them - meaning that they're useless as a way of getting the word out to the all-important masses. Not to mention mainstream media. This was painfully apparent at E3 - sure the Direct was entertaining, but the world didn't pay attention. Nintendo needs to make sure that they're reaching as wide an audience as possible.
Yeah, I can't help but think that a free downloadable copy of Kinect Sports: Rivals (or even a couple more games) for early adopters might be a neat little way of saving face. Or, erm, maybe I'm just greedy for free stuff.
Yeah, Kinect recognises when you've put your controller down during a film or while Skyping, and remotely puts it into a low power state.
Okay, okay, I'll try it! :)
Wildstar has been talking the talk for ages now, and I'm officially amped. I hope the reality measures up to our high expectations!
I suspected as much. The 6-player autodrive limit kills Rivals for me. :(
Yeah, I think that's the key - it would have to be a content-complete edition with all the DLC. Flogging DLC separately would NOT go down well.
